KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Third Saturday in October is a Tennessee tradition, but this weekend, the rivalry hits the ice.
Tennessee Hockey welcomes Alabama to Knoxville for a two-game series Oct. 16-18, looking to keep its undefeated start to the season rolling. The Vols enter the weekend at 4-0, having scored 28 goals while allowing just five through their first four games.
Alabama arrives with a 7-2 record, setting the stage for a competitive matchup between two programs whose rivalry extends beyond the football field. The last time these teams met, Tennessee came away with a 3-1 victory, giving the Vols another reason to bring their best against the Frozen Tide.
Tennessee also enters the weekend with several players coming off productive performances in its most recent series. Kieran Crossan led the way with three goals and two assists, while Bryce Cooper and Marius Angelin each recorded one goal and three assists. Their recent production adds another storyline to a Tennessee offense that has been firing on all cylinders early this season.
The series opens Friday, Oct. 16, at 9 p.m. at Cool Sports for Youth Hockey Night before moving to the Knoxville Coliseum on Sunday, Oct. 18, at noon for the team's Orange Out game. With Tennessee off to a strong start and Alabama looking to make its mark, the weekend offers an early-season test for the Vols as they look to protect home ice and continue building momentum.
Fans can catch the action live on Tennessee Club Sports Network or purchase tickets at the door for $10. Whether you're a longtime hockey fan or looking for a new way to support the Big Orange, this weekend is an opportunity to bring the energy and be part of the rivalry.
