PELHAM, Ala. -- The Tennessee Ice Vols travel to Pelham on Oct. 3 to take on the Alabama Frozen Tide at 7 p.m.
Tennessee is coming off a tough 6-2 loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies. Despite showing determination, the Ice Vols struggled to keep up with the Hokies in several areas on the ice.
Offensively, Tennessee had difficulty setting up plays, connecting passes, and generating clean breakaways. However, they improved their shot quality throughout the game. Captain Connor Frazer and Will Schneider each scored, with both goals assisted by assistant captain Tyler Iles.
Defensively, the Ice Vols showed strength but were unable to contain Virginia Tech’s quick breakaways, resulting in six goals. Tennessee was slow to find its physicality in the first two periods, which proved costly. By the third period, the Ice Vols showed more intensity, drawing several penalties and earning power plays – but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.
Sophomore defenseman Tyler Rose is ready to put in the needed work before Friday’s game.
“We gotta stick to our game by getting the pucks in deep and obviously scoring some goals,” Rose said.
Alabama’s most recent action was a two-game series against the Georgia Bulldogs, in which the teams split 1-1. On Sept. 25, the Frozen Tide fell 3-1, bouncing back the following night with a 4-3 overtime win.
With a 3-3 overall record and in the midst of celebrating their 20 th anniversary season, the Frozen Tide are looking to build their first win streak of the year. Tennessee is determined to prevent that.
“We’ve had a hard week, and I’m excited to see what our team brings out this week,” Rose said. “We are ready to go.”
This marks Tennessee’s first matchup of the season against a familiar opponent, and the Ice Vols are heading into the weekend confident and prepared.
