In his first season leading the Tennessee Ice Vols at the Division 1 club level, Head Coach Drew King has been named the 2024-2025 College Hockey South Division 1 Coach of the Year. This season Drew King has led the team to one of its best seasons in program history, posting a 9-2-1 conference record and an overall regular season record of 19-3-1.
This season, he also led the Ice Vols to victory in the Ghost Pirates Cup at the 26th annual Savannah Hockey Classic in Savannah Georgia, defeating Georgia 8-4 in the championship game in just the team’s second appearance in the tournament.
Now in his second year as head coach of the Tennessee Ice Vols, Drew King previously led the Ice Vols at the Division 2 level, where he compiled a 24-10-1 record in the 2023-2024 season. Under his leadership, the team won the College Hockey South Division 2 Playoffs and advanced to the semifinals of the AAU Division 2 Nationals Tournament, which contributed to College Hockey South’s decision to move the program up to the College Hockey South Division 1 level.
Drew King is from Georgia and has a long history of playing hockey. He played for the Atlanta Knights before attending the University of Tennessee where he played for the Tennessee Ice Vols in 2018-2023 where he was also a former captain. After playing he joined the coaching staff in 2023-2024 coaching alongside his assistant coaches Garrett Griffis and Harry Cadmus.
Drew King and the Ice Vols now turn their attention to the postseason, competing in the College Hockey South Division 1 Playoff Tournament from February 7th-9th in Athens, Georgia,
followed by the AAU Division 1 Nationals Tournament from March 5th-9th in Jacksonville, Florida.
