CINCINNATI – The Tennessee Ice Vols will travel to Cincinnati to fight for a spot in the ACHA National Tournament.
Last weekend, Tennessee participated in the ACHL SEC Tournament as the No. 1 seed, defeating the Ole Miss Ice Rebs 2-1 in the semifinals.
The Ice Vols advanced to the championship, where they faced the South Carolina Gamecocks for the SEC title. After a back-and-forth game, Tennessee fell 4-3.
Despite not claiming the SEC championship, the Ice Vols secured the No. 11 seed in the ACHA Southeast Regional Tournament. While no title is awarded at regionals, two wins would earn Tennessee a berth at nationals.
Tennessee opens the tournament against the No. 6 seed Indiana Hoosiers in the first round.
In their final regular-season series, the Hoosiers swept Dayton 8-2 and 5-1 in Ohio. Indiana later defeated Denison 4-1 in its opening postseason game at the TSCHL Playoff Tournament, but withdrew from the tournament because of unforeseen circumstances. The Hoosiers have not played since.
Both teams will look to make a statement. Indiana aims to reassert itself after its early tournament exit, while Tennessee seeks redemption following its championship loss.
Tennessee and Indiana are scheduled to face off at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Queen City Sportsplex. The game will be streamed on FloHockey. Tickets are available online via the link in @tennesseehockey’s Instagram bio.
The Ice Vols will be without head coach Drew King during the tournament. Assistant coaches Harry Cadmus and Garrett Griffis will lead the team in his absence.
