WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Tennessee will play Ole Miss in the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Hockey League SEC Tournament.
The Ice Vols entered the weekend as the No. 1 seed, automatically advancing to the semifinals.
Tennessee was swept by Oklahoma State last weekend at home in Knoxville. Despite the losses, players were encouraged by their level of play in last Friday night’s game against the Cowboys.
“We can be in the game and winning every game from here on out,” Captain Connor Frazer said. “If that’s the best team that we are going to have to face, we should be cruising from here on out.”
Sixth-seed Ole Miss defeated third-seed Auburn 4-2 on Friday.
Before the tournament, the Ice Rebs had played a competitive game in nearly a month because of winter weather conditions. In their previous weekend series at Auburn, the Tigers swept Ole Miss 3-2 and 7-2.
Also playing in the semifinals are No. 2 seed Georgia and No 4 seed South Carolina. The Ice Vols have not played Georgia this season, but split a weekend with South Carolina in November, winning 3-2 and losing 5-4.
The Ice Vols will play the Ice Rebs on Saturday 14 at noon at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds. If Tennessee wins, they will advance to the championship game Sunday at 11 a.m.
