KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Ice Vols have released a 25-man roster as opening day approaches.
Coming off a 22-6-1 season, the Ice Vols approached tryouts with high standards. Over the course of three days, 86 players competed for a spot, giving coaches plenty of options to craft another winning team.
Head coach Drew King has high spirits, pleased with the players’ performance on the ice.
“I think this is probably the best overall skill level tryout we’ve ever had,” King said. “We have kids from all over the U.S.—California, New York, New Jersey—everywhere—coming here wanting to play Tennessee Hockey.”
As the Ice Vols prepare for their return to the ACHA Division II program for the first time since 2020, big goals are being set to build on last season’s success.
“Game-over-game consistency is something this club desperately needs,” King said. “I think if we can do that, we can go pretty far.”
Looking long-term, the team strives to make an appearance at ACHA Nationals and secure a back-to-back Savannah Classic title.
The Tennessee Ice Vols are set to travel to Chapel Hill to face the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill on Sept. 5, followed by a matchup against Kentucky on Sept. 6 to kick off their season.
